RAM Performance Packages

Real power for the 5.7 HEMI, built the right way. Tuning, intake and exhaust, cams, and forced induction, all verified under load on our in-house Dynojet in Queen Creek.

The RAM 1500 5.7 HEMI is one of the best trucks to build because it responds so well to the basics done correctly. From the factory it is calibrated for a wide range of drivers and a locked emissions target, which leaves real power and drivability on the table. At APA Custom Shop we build HEMI trucks in stages, starting with a proper ECU tune and adding airflow, camshafts, and forced induction as your goals and budget grow. Everything gets verified on our in-house Dynojet so you can see what your exact combination actually makes.

What APA Builds for the RAM 1500 5.7 HEMI

The 5.7 HEMI is a torque-rich, easy-breathing engine that rewards smart upgrades. Whether your 1500 is a daily driver, a weekend tow rig, or a street truck you want to wake up, we build it as a complete system so the parts, the transmission, and the tune all work together instead of fighting each other.

We handle the whole build in-house, from the first bolt-on to a full forced-induction combination, and we tell you honestly where the smart money is for how you actually use the truck.

  • ECU tuning with HP Tuners, including Mopar PCM unlocking for locked HEMI trucks
  • Cold air intake and throttle body upgrades for cleaner airflow
  • Axle-back, cat-back, and long-tube header exhaust for flow and sound
  • Camshaft packages with the supporting valvetrain your build needs
  • Supercharger and turbo installs with the fueling to back them
  • Custom fabrication, suspension, brakes, and alignment to match the power

Packages Built in Stages: Tune, Bolt-Ons, Then Boost

The smartest way to build a HEMI is in stages, so every dollar you spend is supported by the tune and by the parts around it. You do not have to do it all at once, and you do not have to guess at the order. We lay out a path that fits your goals now and leaves room to grow later.

Think of it as three broad steps, each one building on the last. Where your exact build lands depends on your truck, your driving, and your budget, which is why we quote the combination instead of selling a one-size-fits-all kit.

  • Stage one, tune and breathing: an ECU tune with intake and an exhaust upgrade for sharper throttle, better shifts, and cleaner power
  • Stage two, camshaft and headers: a cam package and long-tube headers for a bigger jump in power and that unmistakable HEMI note
  • Stage three, forced induction: a supercharger or turbo with supporting fuel and a full custom tune for the biggest gains
  • Every stage is verified on our in-house Dynojet, not guessed at on the street

Why Your HEMI Needs a Tune

Here is the honest part. Bolt-ons alone leave power on the table because the factory calibration does not know your truck has new airflow. A proper ECU tune is where the HEMI wakes up. It sharpens throttle response, cleans up the eight-speed shift points and firmness, manages or removes cylinder deactivation, and optimizes fuel and timing for the parts you actually installed.

Most modern RAM trucks ship with a locked PCM, so the computer has to be unlocked before anyone can tune it. We handle Mopar ECU unlocking and dial in your calibration with HP Tuners on our in-house Dynojet, so we can verify air-fuel and timing under load instead of hoping the numbers are safe. If you are not local, ask about our remote tuning options.

Towing vs. Power: One Truck, Two Jobs

A lot of HEMI owners want it both ways, a truck that tows a trailer during the week and puts a smile on their face on the weekend. The good news is that tuning can serve both. A tow-focused calibration prioritizes cooler temperatures, smart torque management, and stable power under a heavy load, while a performance calibration chases throttle response and top-end power. We talk through how you actually use the truck before we tune it so you get the character you want.

Questions

RAM Performance Packages — FAQ

Can I still tow after tuning my RAM 1500 5.7 HEMI?

Yes. Tuning does not have to cost you towing capability, and done right it can improve how the truck pulls a load. We can build a tow-oriented calibration that prioritizes cooler temperatures, smart torque management, and stable power, or set up switchable tunes so you can run a towing map during the week and a performance map on the weekend. Tell us how you use the truck and we will match the tune to it.

Do you have to unlock the PCM to tune a newer RAM HEMI?

In most cases, yes. Many modern Mopar trucks ship with a locked PCM that has to be unlocked before it can accept a custom tune. We handle Mopar ECU unlocking in-house and then calibrate with HP Tuners on our Dynojet. Because unlocking availability can vary by year and computer, call us with your specific truck and we will confirm the current options before you commit to anything.

What is MDS and should I turn it off?

MDS is the HEMI cylinder deactivation system that drops the engine to four cylinders to save fuel at light load. Some owners like to manage or disable it for a more consistent feel, and it usually needs to be addressed anyway when you install a performance camshaft. Whether that makes sense for your build depends on your goals, and we will walk you through the tradeoffs when we spec your package.

Can you tune my RAM 1500 if I am not in the Queen Creek area?

Yes. Along with in-house dyno tuning on our Dynojet, we offer remote tuning so drivers outside the Queen Creek area can get a custom calibration for their combination. Reach out with your truck and your current mods and we will explain how the remote process works and what we need from you.
